I had some difficulty with the use of a digital camera. The battery life was too low, the display was too small to get a good focus, resolution was variable, and a timer is a must have for the light weight mount. Most smart phones offer a high def camera, large display, great battery life, and a timer. Problem solved! I picked up a cellphone tripod mount to test with the digiscope. It cost $3.85 on Ebay including shipping, and I had 2 of them in 2 days. I wasn't expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised.This mount will do most phones, except for the largest displays. Just measure the width. You can go to 2.44 inches. The iPhone 4 works, the 5 won't.
